I found the best dog breeder in Bengaluru! Here is my experience of buying a puppy.

As lockdown came in, my company shifted completely to work from home. With the 9–5 office work almost being extinct in most of the MNC companies, I wanted to buy a puppy as I was living in my own house.

I had been tying to convince my parents to get a puppy since my childhood, they had never said ok to it. Now that I had my own job, it was much easier to convince them this time. They finally said OK after few conditions like I should take care of the puppy on my own and not rely on them on this matter.

So with the complete responsibility of the puppy on my shoulders and 12–15 years of commitment ahead, I started looking for a dog breed that suits me. Though I really liked Husky and Golden Retrievers since young age, they had to be ruled out as they are huge and very difficult to maintain for the beginers as they shed a lot.

With most of the pet-friendly apartments in Bengaluru allowing only small-to-medium breed puppies like Shih-Tzu, Maltese, Beagle, Pug etc., my search narrowed pretty much down to these breeds. Maltese being very costly (male puppy costing around 70k INR at the time of writing this article) and Beagles not suiting first timers, I started searching for Shih-Tzu puppies.

First thing i did was to go to Facebook Pages and try searching “Breeders in Bengaluru” and I could find couple of pages with over 20k members. Joined it and posted that I needed a Shih-Tzu puppy. Within a day I got phone numbers of 7–8 sellers/breeders. So, I started calling them one by one.

I had a really bad experience this way because most of the prople were sellers and were offering puppy for 15k. When I asked to send photos of the puppy and it’s parents, they were very hesitant. That is because they were sellers and not dog breeders.

Sellers usually sell puppies at low cost as the puppies will not be of pure breed. Reason why mixed breed puppies are not opted because you never know what medical conditions they might get into later-on in their life. In case of pure breeds, this can be almost ruled out (but not guarenteed!) as both parents will be of same breed and medical conditions of those breeds will be well known for the Vets.

My aim was to get the pure breed that was possible in my budget. I started searching on Google this time for the breeders near me. After some digging I found this place in Whitefield who had a very good rating. Check it out yourselves :

Bangalore Puppy Farm. At the time of writing this article, they had 4.9/5 rating with1186 reviews.

With hopes pupming high, I called the number that is listed. The person who picked the call was Carl. After some greetings and information exchanges, I told about my requirements and if Shih-Tzu was the right breed for me. He asked us to visit the place next day to discuss in person and finalize the breed.

The place where they have puppies is in Whitefield. A husky and a English bulldog welcomed us. Maintainance of the place is good; A place where they can discuss with the visitors, place where they held puppies and their mothers and for a puppy farm, it is very tidy and is of lesser smell; thanks to the workers.

They had two Shih-Tzu puppies to show us. There was a dedicated room inside where we could take puppies and play with them and decide. This was a really good idea as we could spend some time with the puppies to see which one suits us better. We were very lucky to even get some time to spend here as the crowd was less when we visited the place. Even after an hour of playing with the puppies, I could still not finalize on which puppy to buy. Both were very adorable and energetic. They even showed us some photos of puppies’ parents and insisted what to expect if we opt for a Shih-Tzu.

Guess what!? We liked the place and the puppies very much that we bought both the puppies!

One thing to keep in mind is that the contact with breeder should persist even after the puppy is bought. Everytime there is an issue with the puppy, they are the ones who will know how to handle the situation better than the Vets. As they are the ones who spend time with different dogs & breeds day by day.

People at Banglore Puppy Farm are very knowledgeable, kind and passionate towards what they are doing. I’m writing this on my own will and is NOT sponsored by anyone.

I’m really happy with the decision I made in getting the puppies from them (though it was way out of my budget). Any issue with the puppy, I call them and ask for their opinion. Everytime, whatever they have suggested, has worked. Puppies are 48 days old now and Carl even told that he would visit us the time we go for puppies’ first vaccination. Such is their love toward the dogs.

That’s why, at least from my opinion, they earn the first spot in the top breeders in Bengaluru. If you are planning on buying a puppy, let it be of any kind, ring them up (number is in the maps link) and ask them anything. Good luck!

Here are some pictures of my pets.. Say hello to Brownie and Charlie!
